No More Twist

Friday

without comments

I had an interesting Friday. To start off it was bright and sunny, and I was going to see Daisy’s class who were performing at a school assembly – based on the Hungry Caterpillar.

It was good to take time out and not rush to work as soon as possible. The children all seemed to enjoy themselves, and afterwards I dropped Julie at home before driving off to work. Rarely have I been so tempted to get a huge takeaway coffee, park up overlooking the Packington Landfill and just watch the gulls circling and the lorries driving up and down the man-made mountain of rubbish.

But I didn’t do that. I dutifully went to work and got stuck in – we had a few people out on leave so I had a chance to either be useful helping people out, or if it was quiet getting my head down and doing some actual work. I ended up helping out one of the systems guys with some technical answers and a dose of common sense, and doing a code review for some subcontractors.

I got home to find that our ranks had swelled to five children with the addition of some unplanned friend to stay after school. They ate homemade pizza but afterwards there was a bit of an apocalypse in the kitchen when a tub of sauce fell out of the too-full fridge and splattered all over the floor and one of our visitors. Looking at the floor and gingerly walking through the mess I walked straight into an open cupboard door and cut my head on the handle. Ouch!
